Training Program on Basics of Thermal Insulation of Buildings for Energy Efficiency

02 Dec, 2016
Venue:
Conference Hall – Maple, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi

The Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) in collaboration with India Insulation Forum, is organizing a training on “Basics of Thermal Insulation of Buildings for Energy Efficiency". The aim of the training programme is to help Indian professionals involved in designing of buildings to enhance their knowledge on building insulation materials and be in a better position to select and implement insulating materials in building projects they are involved in. The training includes basics of building insulation materials & their applications in buildings, insulation materials available in India and demonstration of application of insulating materials.

The Ministry of Power, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and many State Government institutions have been making extensive efforts to promote energy efficiency in buildings. As a result of these, in recent years a number of enlightened building owners in public and private sectors have adopted several energy efficiency measures to reduce energy intensiveness of their buildings. However, thermal insulation of buildings, as a cost-effective energy saving measure has remained in infancy at present.

Building envelope plays a very crucial role in enhancing energy performance of building as major solar heat gain takes place through roof and walls. There is an urgent need to raise awareness and confidence among the building developers, designers and users to incorporate good thermal insulation practices in early design stage of the building and achieve desired thermal comfort in the building at a low energy cost on long term basis.

With this perspective, Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) with support from Bureau of Energy Efficiency and in collaboration with India Insulation Forum is organising One-day Training Programme on “Basics of Thermal Insulation of Buildings for Energy Efficiency” on 2nd December 2016 in Delhi.

He is a building physicist with almost 50 years of experience in the building sector, dealing essentially with building materials and energy in buildings. He has been a researcher and professor in the Institute of Technology in Lausanne since 1974. He has worked on thermal insulation materials, ventilation systems and indoor environmental air quality. He assisted the Swiss Federal Government in enforcing testing and quality assurance mechanisms for building materials, particularly thermal insulation materials. In the 1980s, he took part in the national training programme on energy-efficient building design for architects and engineers. He has published several books and manuals on energy-efficient building design. Today, Prof. Roulet is an active player in the development of norms and standards for sustainable buildings.
